“St. Francis is a Catholic elementary school located in Marshalltown, Iowa that seeks to serve and educate the whole child, regardless of their religious affiliation, in a Christ-centered way of living. Inspired by our patron, Saint Francis of Assisi, we encourage students to live and grow in holiness and are dedicated to sharing our faith with others. St. Francis offers the highest quality education with dynamic experiences not only focused on developing students to be successful in the competitive world but in service-learning as well. Recognizing the importance of parents as primary educators, St. Francis promotes parental involvement and participation to develop individuals with strong faith, character, and passion for lifelong learning.”

The Process | how these statements were developed

Over the course of several professional development sessions, the St. Francis Staff and the School Improvement Team which consists of parents, parishioners, teachers, and the priest, met together to discuss what the qualities of a great mission and vision statement were. The group then got to work identifying why they thought our school existed, who our school serves, what programs we offer, and what values we hold most precious. From that work session, the following key words emerged:

After several other work sessions, a large amount of word-smithing, and three drafts later, the School Improvement Team is pleased to announce the new mission statement of St. Francis Catholic School. St. Francis Teachers and Staff are honored to be a part of this wonderful school and all that it stands for! Cheers to a new year and a new beginning!
